This will be my last article for the President's page. At the 32nd Biennial Convention of the Minnesota North District Lutheran Women in Mission, a new President will be elected. We welcome her and will support her as she begins this faith journey as the leader of this organization.
Six years ago, I was elected President. My 11-year-old grandson was sitting beside me. To say I was stunned is an understatement. Being elected was not on my radar. He was excited. "Grandma, you won! You're the President!" Immediately, doubts about my ability to do this task entered my mind. Could I do this? Would I be able to fulfill all the duties and responsibilities of this office? Then I prayed. I turned the job over to God. I knew that as long as I relied on Him, things would be alright. Like every other sinful being, I failed many times, often because handling the situation alone was my choice. It was foolish to think that. Only with God's help can anyone do a job well.
Dear sisters in Christ, have you been given a job that seems overwhelming? Take it to the Lord. He will not leave you or forsake you. He will guide you and keep you in his loving care. Do not say "I cannot do this," but "I can do this with God's help." So much has been gained in this position. My faith has deepened, and my reliance on the Lord has increased. Meeting all the wonderful ladies of the LWML has been such a blessing. Every word of encouragement has been deeply appreciated, and even the constructive criticism has been received and taken to heart. I plan to continue to "Serve the Lord with gladness" in the local group and in the zone and will see you all at future events and conventions.
This passage has special meaning for me: looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured from sinners such hostility against himself, so that you may not grow weary or fainthearted (Hebrews 12:2-3).
Blessings,
Kathleen Brandt
